Following 11 years at the forefront of tackling some of the world’s most complex problems, we’re excited to launch this search for a new Managing Director to lead the next phase of our growth, innovation and impact. This is a unique opportunity to deliver real change at real scale, and we think it will be a brilliant role for a globally-minded, entrepreneurial and purpose-driven leader.
Here are five reasons we think you’ll love the role.
1. You’ll be helping build a more peaceful, equitable & sustainable world
We’re proud to be able to look back upon a decade of transformative impact on some of the world’s toughest problems; conflict and governance, food systems and inclusive growth, climate and environmental sustainability. You’ll be inheriting a purpose-driven vision and a world-class track record of working with respected organisations to drive change at scale. Take a look at some examples of our work.
2. We’re ambitious and want your help to increase our impact in the world
We’ve come a long way in our short history and we’re hungry to expand the impact we can have on complex problems in the world. We’re a flourishing organisation and there is much to build on; we have a brilliant and growing team, a fantastic network of consultants and partners, a distinct systems-change practice and a strong reputation in the areas in which we work.
3. You’ll be helping drive our vision and delivering on our strategy for growth
You’ll have the freedom and flexibility to innovate, execute and drive the business forward. The role will need you to be both internally and externally engaged; able to work directly with our clients, build strong strategic relationships with our partners, nurture our self-management driven culture and create an ambitious pathway to growth.
4. You’ll be helping position Wasafiri as a systems-change thought leader and incubator
Our purpose is to tackle complex problems and to help other people tackle them more effectively. Our Institute harvests learning from our work on the front lines to inform our thought leadership and practice on systems-change. This means that part of your role will be to help us pioneer new avenues for scaling and applying this work in support of systems-change practitioners and decision-makers around the world.
5. You’ll be helping us practice a different way of doing business
In our founding we were inspired by the phrase ‘Traveller, there is no path. The path is made as we walk together.1” This simple statement gives you some insight into our name and ethos. Since then, we’re proud to have been honoured by B-Corporation as a ‘Best for the World Company’, and have become a committed member of the UN Global Compact. People love working with us, and we want to continue in our journey of becoming more people-oriented, adaptive and innovative. Find out more.
(By the way, here’s a little more about us and the role)
We’re currently a team of 22 full-time staff supporting over 60 associates working globally. We work from offices in Nairobi (Kenya), Brighton (UK) and Asheville (USA) and a few of us work remotely. We’re devolved, disparate, diverse and all passionate about what we do.
As Managing Director you’ll report to the Board, lead a small team of Directors and oversee a wider leadership group. The role will require you to contribute to sales and/or delivery; work directly with our clients and build strong strategic relationships with partners. We expect it’ll be a demanding role that will come with high expectations, so we’re looking for a very special person.
