Alex Rees

MANAGING DIRECTOR

Alex became Wasafiri’s Managing Director in 2022. He is passionate about making positive change happen, and on a large scale. He is committed to equipping more systems leaders to progress change in their field.

Alex joined Wasafiri in 2017. He led a portfolio focused on improving food systems and encouraging opportunities to improve lives for a diversity of clients globally and in Africa.

He loves working with people equally committed to seeking change, something he’s found at Wasafiri and with Wasafiri’s clients and partners. For instance, with innovative partners and colleagues, he co-instigated the African Food Fellowship, a novel and ambitious initiative to empower a new generation of food systems leaders in Africa.

He has over 20 years of leadership experience in the international development field, inspiring and influencing change in policy, programmes and systems with organisations like Save the Children and the Global Alliance for Improved Nutrition. He combines systems thinking, thought leadership and strategic insight in seeking sustainable change.

He’s ever more curious and determined to find better ways to collaborate to reduce conflict and poverty, combat climate change and improve nature and our food systems.

He is an ardent fan of collaboration – as well as Brighton and Hove Albion! He’s a family man, a keen gardener, swimmer, tennis player and golfer in his spare time.
