Since inception, Wasafiri has understood profit as a goal secondary to achieving wider social value. Through the rigorous B-Corp certification process, this has now been formally recognised, joining the ranks of highly respected companies such as Patagonia and Ben & Jerry’s. B Corp is to business what Fair Trade certification is to coffee.
We are committed to delivering value to all our stakeholders. Firstly our work seeks to tackle humanity’s toughest problems. Secondly, we aim to provide staff and consultants with rewarding, secure, happy and safe work. Thirdly, we aim to return fair financial value to the people who have invested in Wasafiri. Together these notions are driving our growth and allowing us to increase our positive impact on the world.
This stakeholder approach to governance is also true to our view of systems change. Any one actor’s success is possible only through interdependence with others and virtuous feedback cycles; these need nurturing. Pursuing success at the neglect of others meanwhile, will ultimately cause one’s downfall. The African notion of Ubuntu puts it best – “I am what I am because of who we all are.” This ethos is Wasafiri’s North Star and we are delighted to have it formally recognised through our new B-Corp status.
